Made in Florida Movie
and Manufacturing Discussion Panel

The Florida Advanced Technological Education Center (FLATE) would like to invite you to our Manufacturing Day 2015 viewing of the Made in Florida movie and Manufacturing Discussion Panel from 5:30-7:00 PM on Thursday, October 15th, 2015.

This event is being hosted by Middleton High School, the Pre-Collegiate STEM Academy for Hillsborough County Public Schools.  Tampa Bay area students, parents, educators, and business leaders are encouraged to participate and promote student interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers in the manufacturing industry.

Some of the products that you use and benefit from everyday are Made in Florida. Come along on an exciting journey and explore the manufacturing that is happening throughout the state and learn about some of the awesome high-tech equipment and techniques that individuals just like you get to use everyday to create their company’s trademark products. You may even find that you recognize many of the unique and useful products that are made right in your backyard!

Our Manufacturing Discussion Panel will start immediately following the movie. Each panel member will have a 1-2 minute opening statement addressing Tampa Bay area manufacturing.  Upon completion of the introductions, questions will be solicited by the moderator, Ms. Kim Moore, from the audience for the remainder of the 45 minute discussion.  Our distinguished panelist are:

  • Dr. Marilyn Barger, Executive Director, Florida Advanced Technological Education Center (FLATE)
  • Mr. Michael Brewster, Vice President of Plant Operations, Monin
  • Ms. Debra Delise, Vice President of Engineering, Sypris Electronics
  • Mr. Kenneth Jones, Manager of Industry Strategic Initiatives, Hillsborough County Economic Development
  • Mr. Ken Jurgensmeyer, Director of Operations and Engineering, Heat Pipe Technologies
  • Dr. Nancee Sorenson, President, Hillsborough Community College, Brandon Campus
  • Mr. Roy Sweatman, President, Southern Manufacturing Technologies

Manufacturing Day has been designed to expand knowledge about and improve general public perception of manufacturing careers and manufacturing’s value to the U.S. economy. It is a way for students, parents and educators to connect with manufacturers to explore how they can be involved in the growing number of manufacturing-related careers across the country.

This event is an opportunity to:
